6 Months Old!

Today, Lily is 6 months old! She had her 6 month check up this morning and is growing right on track: 16 lb 10 oz (61st percentile), 26" tall (55th percentile), and 16.54" head circumference (44 percentile). Lily's had an eventful month, and it's really exciting to watch her grow and learn. 

On December 10th Lily cut her first tooth, quickly followed by her second on December 12th! She was more fussy during the cutting process (not in severity but in duration), but as soon as they were done she calmed down dramatically.

Lily's gotten pretty good at sitting up, and her upper body and neck strength is coming along nicely. She likes sitting up and playing with toys, but she tends to topple herself reaching for new items. We have to watch for these toppling events, and have accordingly taken to not having her do so while on the couch.

Lily's upper body control is such that now she can handle a highchair. It was exciting to have her at the table, instead of sitting in her stroller off to the side, and she had a lot of fun playing with things on the table. 

Of course, we had to watch what she could reach, quickly learning that silverware and condiments needed to be moved. After a while she started to fuss a bit, so we moved her to our laps. When Gina's food came out, the second it was down on the table Lily gleefully slammed her hands into it. It was funny to everyone but Gina (and even a bit to her).

Lily also got her first trip to a bowling alley, which she was generally okay with. She liked seeing our friends, as per usual, and crazily fell asleep at the alley!

Lily also got to attend her first rare book event, hosted by OSU's Rare Books and Manuscripts Library. The curator allowed her to "hold" the above 17th century book (I need to go back and check the date for sure), and Lily was a hit for the crowd.

Lily has also started to become somewhat mobile! She's mostly rolling so far, but she can get some distance. In the above, she started in the middle of the blanket in the middle of the room, but ended up across the room. While she's not crawling yet, she's getting pretty close I think.

One of Lily's favorite things to do is to kick things. When we put her on the changing table, she kicks like crazy. In her crib, she pivots around to find the best angle to kick things. When she rolls and finds something crinkly with her feet, such as paper bags full of apples, she of course spends many minutes kicking them like crazy.

Of course, this shouldn't downplay how much she likes playing with sounds. Her go to now is the raspberry.

In addition to everything else, we've also started giving Lily some solid foods. So far she's had oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes, hummus, and applesauce. She seems skeptical while tasting each, but excitedly grabs for me. To be fair, we've only tried sweet stuff so far, so we'll see how she reacts to veggies once we put them in the mix. 

Lily was also interested in playing with the applesauce. So far we've kept this potential for finger painting in controlled settings, but we'll see how it goes.

Lily has also really like the cats. One of them, Pellinore, still doesn't know how he feels about Lily. 

The other cat, Oliver, seems to have taken to lily though. 

So far, they seem to be turning into buddies. 

They even share playing with boxes. 

All in all, Lily is doing great, growing right on track, and is just a step below mobility!
