One week old!

Yesterday, Lily was a week old! She's doing rather well at home, and has been generally adorable. There has been some fussing, but often it's nothing more than is to be expected, and she doesn't take terribly long to calm down. The exception to that was the first night we had her home, but that was likely due to overheating. After all, it was in the upper 90s with no AC in the house, and our little girl has not benefited from southeast Texas heat conditioning as we have.

Lily's umbilical cord came off Tuesday, and it generally freaked me out a bit. The end of it was hooked just slightly and caught easily on the lip of the diapers (no matter how much we folded down) and she would outright grab and tug on it herself. It finally came off, however, and she seemed generally fine. It mostly closed up by the next day, and she's never acted sensitive about the area.

One advantage of the umbilical cord being out is that we've been introducing Lily to tummy time. I can't say it's her favorite thing in the world, but she seems to get interested in the different perspectives it offers. She does, however, have the tendency to use her mouth as a tool for locomotion, which is silly to say the least.

I've also tried to bring out the moby for use, but I still don't entirely know what I'm doing. The first wrap, carefully following the instructions, ended up pretty low and put a lot of the weight in weird places, but Lily conked right out in it and it was nice to have her close like that (while leaving my hands free). I tried it again late last night/early this morning, but ended up with the opposite problem of it being too loose. Either way, we'll get the hang of this thing, so daddy can take her around in style (once the newborn quarantine is over that is).
